Client Intro

Our client are the world’s biggest online car rental service operating across 53,000 locations in 160 countries and 40 different languages. They take over eight million bookings a year working with close to 1,000 separate companies as part of their offering.

The Client’s Problem

As their customers rent vehicles online prior to travel, the client was looking to explore the possibility of up-selling vehicle wi-fi connectivity.

The main challenge was not the provision of the technology itself – it’s widely available – but rather the complex logistical issues to ensure that each driver could access the mobile wi-fi device before they left their home country. In addition, for the up-selling to be successful, the device needed to have a very simple ‘plug & play’ installation process.

The Ritesim Solution

After a long consultation process taking in multiple stakeholders, senior management and technology companies, we decided to focus our solution on travelers originating from the UK, Australia, USA and Canada. Whilst our connectivity solution’s are available globally, the opportunity was largest operating out of these countries.

RiteSim created a bespoke online platform which seamlessly linked to the client’s car rental website. This enabled all orders placed through the website to go directly to the relevant logistics centre. Once an order was received, the M2M SIM and mobile device were dispatched the same day, ensuring that every customer had their tech prior to travelling. The global SIMs were able to travel freely across countries and regions, ensuring that our client didn’t incur any additional costs from roaming. Each SIM is non-steered and multi-network, meaning that they can move freely between local networks around the world, always ensuring the best possible signal. In addition to this, the custom platform allows our client to track and remotely control all SIMs and devices should the need ever occur through the connectivity control center – Cisco-Jasper.

Results

Our client has been extremely happy with the bespoke connectivity solution RiteSim has provided. The system has worked flawlessly and the up-sell service has provided a new and lucrative revenue stream for the client as well as adding value to the end-user.
